My Mother the Model

My mother is beautiful.

My mother has fabulous style and taste.

My mother is loud, fun and bright.

My mother is secretly very insecure.

For these reasons I am going to use her as my model for two of my shoots. She is perfect for two reasons:

1) Being slightly older she fits the diversity category perfectly and I think I'll be able to do a fabulous shoot using her to show age range.
2) I'm hoping that this shoot will let her see that she is in fact gorgeous and brilliant. I think it perfectly shows the point of this diversity brief, to not only show diversity but give people the confidence that being diverse is a good thing.

I REALLY want this shoot to boost her confidence.

Working on 'The Jewel' Design

I have been working on Jewel themed facecharts for my first 'mature eccentric' shoot, using the products on paper that I would use on the face (minus foundation - too messy/wasteful.) I have done two using different tones, to see which would look better and which colours would compliment her skin type and skin tone best.

At the moment I think I prefer the first one, because its a lot different to the makeup colours that the model usually wears and I really want to bring out her inner eccentric.

Eccentric Hearts: Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood is on here because of her sheer confidence in who she is and what she looks like. She refuses to have any post production on herself in campaigns and even has been spotted wearing a t-shirt with her own face on it. She has the attitude that i was to convey through my styling and photographs.

Eccentric Hearts: Iris Apfel

Iris Apfel, for me, is the ultimate icon for aged eccentricity. She relates to my shoot because she styles her look with a lot of accessories and jewellery, which is what I'm planning to do also. Although she is VERY eccentric, she looks classy which is what I'm planning to achieve in my shoot as well.

My idea for my model to be "jewel" themed seems to fit with Iris Apfel because she is not afraid of bright colours, and she wears them with class and sophistication.

What IS Eccentricity?

The word eccentric is described in the Oxford Dictionary as:

adjective

  • 1(of a person or their behaviour) unconventional and slightly strange:
    he noted her eccentric appearance
  • noun

      • 1a person of unconventional and slightly strange views or behaviour:
he’s seen as a local eccentric

Eccentric Hearts: Anna Piaggi

The late Ana Piaggi, who wrote for Italian Vogue, was known for her outrageous style. Although there are many fabulous photographs of her I especially adore the photo series below because there is an air of sophistication to the madness, which I want to incorporate into my own shoot.

My model has purple coloured hair and Piaggi is known for her blue hair so it fits perfectly and is giving me heaps of inspiration of how to make her look B.E.A.utiful.

LOOK 1 - THE JEWEL

I want my first shoot to be about age. My favourite type of people are slightly older really eccentric individuals who know that they are fabulous are are confident that they look amazing, even though it might not to be to everyone's taste.

My plan is to get my mum in to be my model because shes slightly eccentric and slightly older. I will style her with jewels and accessories, because I've always though of her as being full of jewel colours.

I'm going to research lots of eccentric older people for inspiration to add to my ideas.
